Ring Sizing Measurements

What is the best way to measure your ring size accurately?

The hardest thing about buying rings online, is figuring out your ring size.  Many people already know, but probably just as many people don't.  If you guess the wrong size what do you do?  Go to a local jeweler and have it resized?  Send it back to the Seller and have it resized and incur additional shipping charges and resizing fees?  Before you buy rings online it is best that you have an accurate size for the finger on which you want to wear the ring.  The most accurate way to get your ring size is by going to a local jeweler because they have the tools necessary.  When this is not an option then use a ring sizer.

Use these tips for measuring your own finger:

  1. Measure your finger in warm temperatures at the end of the day..
  2. If your knuckle is a lot larger than the base of your finger except measure both the base of your finger and your knuckle and select a size in between the two.

Use these tips if you are buying the ring for someone else:

  1. Ask your intended recipient’s mother or friend if they know his/her finger size.
  2. Borrow one of your intended recipient’s rings. Make sure to borrow a ring that fits the finger you intend your gift ring to fit.

Other tips and information to consider:

  1. When considering a wide band, move up a size from your measurement, for comfort’s sake.
  2. Different countries have different ring-size systems. All sizes listed here are standard American sizes.
  3. The average woman’s ring size is about 6. The average man’s ring size is about 10.
  4. Your ring size will be about half a size larger on your primary hand (i.e., the hand you write with).

Ring Sizer

Ring Sizer

In order to print the ring sizer above, be sure that your printer is set to 100%. In other words, make sure that you have not reduced the print size in 'Page Setup'. You can verify that the sizer has printed correctly by measuring it with a ruler; it should measure from left to right: 3 3/8 inches.

Once you have printed the sizer, cut it out and then use either of the following two options to find your ring size:

Option A:

  1. Cut a slit for Slot "A".
  2. With the numbers facing out, wrap the sizer around the finger where the ring will be worn.
  3. Pull the pointed end Tab "B" through Slot "A" until the sizer is snug, making sure to allow size for the knuckle.
  4. The number aligned with Slot "B" is your ring size.
  5. If the measure lands between two numbers your size is a half size Ex: Between 5 and 6 ring size: 5.5. If half sizes are not available, order the next largest size.

Option B:

  1. Wrap a piece of loose string around your finger. Be sure to allow for the size of your knuckle.
  2. With a pen, mark the point on the string where the end meets.
  3. Using the chart, place the end of the string on the left hand line next to the letter "A" and stretch the string along the sizer toward the numbers.
  4. The pen mark on your string should line up with a number to indicate your ring size.
  5. If the measure lands between two numbers your size is a half size Ex: Between 5 and 6 ring size: 5.5. If half sizes are not available, order the next largest size.
